I am completely new to this.. first picture I took in my yard with a bad camera. Let me know any goods or bads.

well...it's all subjective i guess, but in my opinion:

good- originality, intriguing composition, nice color
bad- the grass is too blown out (try changing the depth of field---closer to F2.8 would add texture to the grass); the photo is a bit crooked; also, try finding a grassy area with something to grab someone's interest, a flower, a bug or maybe some old junk lying in the grass might do the trick...

good start. keep trying! lots and lots and lots of practice will improve your techniques (duh...).
