I've always used a speedlite and lately while takign some family photos realized the pop up flash doesnt come up when needed... I cant even select it within the menu assuming I'm going to the right spots. Thoughts?

Yup, this is a common problem. Below the rail of your hotshoe there is a little microswitch. Chances are its stuck and your camera thinks there is already a flash mounted. Just use a paperclip to depress it slightly up and down to unstick it. Should take care of the problem

I had the same issue with my 60D, but it ended up being a firmware glitch.

I have had that switch stick on every camera I've ever owned, except the 5Dc I just bought. It will happen to that camera, too. I keep a toothpick in my bag for just such occasions.

I'd love to see the popup switch stick on a 5D :)

I just had to laugh at my own stupidity! Thanks for pointing that out guys. In my most meager of defenses, I've only had the camera 6 days. I didn't even think of that. Duh!

No worries. I've owned a 5D3 for several months, and still cannot figure out how to get the flash to pop up.
