Hello again,

I came back from one shop with a new body to my list.

I didn't open the box yet here at home, but as first glance in the shop, the box seems was opened before, the manual is not original at all, it is a photocopy printed out, i don't know what else there i didn't check, i told him don't take everything out, only the body and i assure the letter X is there. On my way back, a salesman called me and told me there is the eye-cup missing, i don't know what he means, but shouldn't that be on the body or at least it is inside the box? What's going on?

How can i be sure now that this body is new BRAND NEW? before i open the box i want to know your opinions about it.

How can i make sure about the shutter counts so at least to feel this body is really new and not used before or opened or even for demo, any clue?

If you did not get a discount I would demand a new camera. If you paid for new you should get new.

Check Eoscount For shuttercount

I paid less but not very much less than the original one, only about $300-400 less, so it should be new, if used i think i will pay less by say $1500-2000 maybe, and i can't ask for replacement now, but if i will check the shuttercount then i may find out if it is new.

Thanks for that, i will check EOScount, i boughta new CF card just in case.

I agree, but if i returned it then i will buy it from the authorized dealer, and it is much expensive here than online, and i will add more for new, i don't know if that is a good idea, if only the manual is odd then i will accept it, but maybe the shot will not return it if i test the camera, should i just stop worrying and use the camera even if it is not very new or Brand New?

I would have just said "Exactly! It was missing the manual, the eye cup and who knows what else! That's why I returned it!"

I checked the box, the eye cup is dropped in the shop by mistake, the seller called me to come back to take it, he can ignore me if so. everything is there, few plastic bags are unsealed, the CD's covers are sealed, and the manual is replaced with a printed or photocopied one.

The main thing/item is the body, here are what i found:

- The body is shining polished
- The smell is exactly as the new car in the showroom, Brand new smell
- No signs of wear, no finger prints or smudges or scratches not even a dust, the LCD is very clean
- It has that greasy texture or touch

A friend told me to keep it because i bought it from a gray market, so they open box for preview or demo and sometimes the body is untouched or unused, normal there, and as you advised, using a shutter count to check out, but i don't know if that will give me an accurate reading/result.

You could solve all of this by purchasing from a well established, reputable, Canon-authorized dealer.

You get what you pay for. I say try it out, unless there's some rule with the seller that affects your ability to return it after use.

I will check the bell again, i can take it to the court if so or a department that control the markets.

Before i test it, i will try with the software, the problem is i have a game on Monday, i don't think i may have time to return it and buy it from an authorized dealer within the time before monday.

Well, if you were in my place, and bought it in that condition and you saved some bucks say around $400-600, will you return it or keep it?

You have rules that protect you as consumer/customers, here most rules are ignored or not followed, and while i fight for my rights the time is passing and i just waste my time and maybe more money and effort.

Everyone has different values. I read my manual on pdf 95% of the time, not on paper, so no loss there. If the camera worked perfectly, I'd probably keep it.

The only question I would have would be before purchase: would I rather support my local camera shop. I usually give them my higher-margin business, stuff like camera straps or extra body caps and batteries, though I always buy from the local shop if I try the item out there (I would never try out a body and then go buy elsewhere, unless it was a competing LCS). But everyone has their own view on this stuff, and that's fine.

The 1Dx does not come shiny or greasy, it does not smell like a new car, the unsealed bags and cd envelopes are a worry, looks like someone has had a play with it, check the lens mount for scratches a new body will not have these.
For something so expensive I would buy from an authorised dealer, so that there are no problems within the warranty period, also helps if you need service later on.

For all you know this camera could be a shop demo or refurbished etc.

I called the store today, after short talking, the seller told me i can return the box and he will try to find another box new not opened and all stuff inside is sealed, so how can i believe him again and the sealing is not fake, and the items including the body are really Brand New?
