This is my first attempt at using a flash. Remote triggered 600EX through white sock, bounced off of ceiling. What could / should I have done different. Also, specifically what flash gear might have helped this image. This is SOCC, obviously I need to crop the shadow. Just looked at the image after uploading and it seems to have lost some focus. Eyes are tack sharp on my monitor.

What were your settings? Kitty's (camera) left side has a shadow, indicating light from the right, not above. Me thinks you used too slow of a shutter speed to overcome the ambient. Although, the more I look at it, it may be from the ceiling bounce, but the catchlight in her (camera) right eye says there was a light off to the right, as well as a dimmer/softer light to the left. On a side note, you should crop out the lampshade(?) on the right side.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

Know about lampshade. Image is sooc. Flash was 90 degrees camera right, about 10 feet away. The flash was sitting approx 7 feet off the floor on top of a cabinet, aimed at a 45 degree angle toward the ceiling. Don't have any stands as of yet, thus the top of the cabinet for the flash. Window camera left just in front of cat. 1/200 sec shutter, f10 aperture, ISO 1000, 105mm focal length.

Did you take any shots with a lower ISO? The 45 deg angle of the flash accounts for the shadowing on the left side and the catchlight. I thought you had bounced straight up.

Not that I imported off of card. What would you have recommended? Also any idea on other flash placement? Just starting to try to learn flash.
