Was at my kid's soccer party for the end of the season when in the distance I heard an unusual engine sounds...like a heavy. I wasn't really prepared to see a B-17. Didn't have a big enough lens on the camera, but here's a cropped (severely) version. Told it has nose art like the Memphis Belle (not the real one of course).

Good catch, and certainly something you couldn't have expected to see flying nearby.

Yep, it's the one up here at Wright Patterson.

The real Memphis Belle is at Wright Patterson AFB at the USAF Museum being restored. The one you saw is a slightly different model made to look like the original. It travels to airshows and has been used in movies.

The B-17 pictured is known in the warbird community as "The Movie Memphis Belle" and is now leased by the Liberty Foundation. It got it's name since it has the Memphis Belle nose art it used during the filming of that movie back in 1989/1990. It was originally a B17G and was converted to an F model. A great website for B-17 info is here: http://www.aerovintage.com/b17news.htm (external link)
