You don't see one of these every day. The bronze color of this beast really stood out. Classic car 'show' at the local Market Street Days back in August. This car had the single big speedo/gauge cluster off the steering wheel, I think they called it the "Uni-pod" or something. Only used for one or two model years. I believe this was a '50 or '51. There was no placard on the car, and the owner had wandered away.

Sometimes the license plate will be from the model year.
It looks like he did a great job on it, but sometimes I have to wonder what prompts them to restore a particular car, like the guys with a Gremlin or Pacer?

Yes, it may just be - there was no script lettering on the car or anything, except for the big "Nash" circular medallion on the hood, and the "AirFlyte" script across the dash. I tried to ID the car on the net and the Ambassador looked close - don't think I saw a "Statesman" model. But you're probably right.

If you look at the steering wheel, it is turned about a quarter turn, so what looks like a spoke on the right side is the gear shift. Typical 'three on the tree' setup. There does appear to be something in either side of the grill that look red that may be turn signals. Those may have been added to be legal and it may have factory signals in the rear.

Your guys notice that button on the floor? That's the starter button. There's a small tab on the left side of the clutch pedal. To start the car, you need to turn on the key, press the clutch all the way to the floor and engage the starter. My dad had a '48 ambassador with that feature. His next car, a '50 Ambassador was an automatic. In that car, Nash saw fit to position the battery under the hood, fender seam. When it rained the car stalled. Cars were hard to get after the war, and you had to know someone who knew someone. In '48 he couldn't get anything else but a Nash. The '50 was his last Nash. In '52 he bought an Oldsmobile Super 88. And, yes, the car in the Pic looks like a Statesman to me and it's not a '51, it's either a '49 or '50.

^^^^Oh, the high/low beam switch is on the floor too. It's just not is visible in the pict. It's located high and to the left. All cars had it there then. I sort of miss it. it was very easy to engage.
