Okay I know these things are asked all the time but I have someone wanting me to come take photos of 25 damaged windows on their house for a lawsuit they are in. I have no idea on what to charge for this.

From RDKirk: First, let me check the forum heading...yes, it does say "Business of Photography" and not "Hobby of Photography." Okay. So we're talking about making money, not about hobbies. By "business" I am presuming activities that pay expenses and produce a profit over the long term.

Sounds like a simple hourly rate plus travel expenses is all you'll need to give them.

While not exactly the same, I was recently contacted by an attorney to photograph facial scarring on a client of his for a pending lawsuit. The client lived 5 minutes away from where I live. So I asked what the attorney wanted in the end in terms of prints, etc... He just wanted high res digital downloads. So I computed a price for the full gallery of digital downloaded images plus an hourly rate for doing the shoot, and I sent an invoice for that price.

Cut to the chase and ask what the budget is. Then decide if it's worth it to you. If not, try to negotiate for me.

My answer for most photography questions: "it depends...'
