Scary moment, I thought the old one had been flushed.

Regarding batteries in the D800 - mine seem to last forever.

I always have the grip on mine, and I've never managed to kill 1 battery, let alone 2. I chimp a lot too. I never use live view though.

No grip on mine, I use live view a LOT - I'd say every time I have it out it's being used. I chimp a lot too. I've only got one battery, I think the camera knows this and does what it can to make it last. ;)

Maybe battery life have to do with lens? Bigger lens need more juice to drive the AF/VR?
I chimp all day but never manage to finish a battery in one day

I leave the grip off as I use a tripod quite a bit. They're not great for stability.

Not sure about that. When I got over 1100 shots on the battery I was using the 24-70. The largest drain is LV but there are several other things that can also eat up power such as having long delays for meter off and sleep mode.

Pretty pumped. Just won a Tourism Saskatchewan Competition. Won my Category and also the grand prize. $1000 gift certificate and also publication for visibility in the saskatchewan Land of the Living skies calendar AND the 2013 Northern section of our tourism guide.

Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked. Photo was taken with a canon camera so I'll stick with the rules and not post it.

Look at what my friendly FedEx driver just dropped off. Quick and dirty with my $100 D300 and $50 18-55 VR. ;)
