Just found this, AF-S appears to have improved

Interesting. Did you notice an improvement in AF performance?

77mm filters also fit into a bag a helluva lot better than the monstrosity required to make 'em work right on the 14-24mm. And you can throw the filters in your pocket when you are usin' them (that what I usually do). The 14-24mm is awesome, though, that's for sure. And there's work arounds for the filters if you have room in your bag, or you can black card it or something if really needed, I suppose. Or use exposure averaging instead of ND, if I would have known how well that worked I might have said screw it and got the 14-24mm, instead. But pain to use in cases where you wanted an ND500. Eh. The new 18-35mm seems good, too. You really can't go wrong with Nikon wide angles. There's some little voice in my head that sometimes tells me to sell the 16-35mm and get a Sigma 12-24mm II, for the lolz. Maybe I will someday. lol.

And MikeFairbanks: I would but it's been raining. Non stop. /sigh. It's like I'm still in southeast Alaska, I feel so at home. ^_^

I'm considering a 18-35 for travel. I wouldn't mind something compact. :)

I have on the D4 with its latest updates. For example, I mess around a lot and shoot my baby girl under lamp and TV lighting only, in our living room at night, so it's pretty dark. Prior to the update I could always acheive focus but it would often jitter back and forth ever so slightly maybe once or twice before locking and now it just goes and hits very consistantly under the same conditions. Needless to say i feel very good about what Nikon did with the latest firmware in terms of IQ and AF.

PS. I bought the AF-S 85 1.8 G that was for sale on these boards yesterday:cool:

cant wait to mate that to the D4 and go to town:p

Nice! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! I'm done spending for a while though... maybe a 1.4x teleconverter, but that is all.

I really want to try an F1.8 as well. I just think I would always be lusting over the f1.4.

Nope, but I haven't used it much. Verified it still worked, tried live view since that mattered to me and turned it off.

Thanks. I'll report my impressions after using it. So far I love the build, AF, and ergonomics.

I see. The LV is definitely improved.

Thanks, got the 200mm f4 micro coming next week. Curious to see how it compares with the 105.

Anyone got a suggestion for an inexpensive lens for one of the Nikon DX SLR's? A friend of ours wants a good lens to take photos of her kids, and doesn't want to spend a bunch of money. I suggested the 35 f/1.8G to her.
