A friend of ours wants a good lens to take photos of her kids, and doesn't want to spend a bunch of money. I suggested the 35 f/1.8G to her. I would go with the 35 G or 50 G.

I let her borrow my 50 1.8G, she didn't care for it, she muttered something about having to be too far back. I figured the 35 might work for her. She liked the shots I took of the kids one day when they were over here, I was using my 50 1.8G on the D800 but apparently it works different on a DX body. Both husband and wife are MD's, her husband had a board meeting to attend out of town when she had to be at the hospital so the kids spent time with us.

Apr 12, 2013 11:10 | #3244 Here's one I shot this morning, handheld. No wind which helped a lot. D800, 105mm, f/9, 1/200. ISO 560. It some kind of flower that grows on a tree, a little smaller than a quarter.

If anyone actually buys one please post some samples, for a slow aperture lens I'm actually interested in this one! Which is weird since I only really use primes!? Glyn

Apr 13, 2013 01:46 | #3253 I"ve looked at a lot of sample shots on Dpreview, FM, Nikonians and Nikon cafe, Lensrentals, etc, many people have been posting photos and various comparisons. I've decided a better route for me would be the 300 f4 with a TC. The tests I have seen comparing this combination with the 80-400 indicate very minimal IQ improvement with the 80-400, certainly not enough of a bump to justify the cost difference.

Was lucky to happen accross my 2 eagle buddies on the river. I try not to bother them when they are perched, but this guy jumped off and flew right by me. He must have been curious.
