My 200mm f4 got dropped off today, late this afternoon I went out with it to take a few photos in the light rain that was falling. I took two, and then it started pouring so I got under cover fast. D800, 200mm, f/5, 1/250, ISO 500. I like the lens, it's really got a nice old school feel to it but I think it'll take awhile to get comfortable with it. I'd like to get it on a tripod, but RRS said it would take a week or two get my ground pod and my foot mount for it.

Wow! Sweet Jesus! That shot is sharp! :)

So I snagged a Zeiss 50mm 1.4 last night for a sweet price. I've been looking for a 50mm for a while. I think I'll keep my 1.8G for when I want AF still.

Nice! You might like Zeiss. :)

Best Buy didn't have a 6D to play around with(or anything else besides rebels on the Canon side.)

On the Nikon side they had a D7100 and man did it feel great, I couldn't figure out how to change the settings at all. Never used a Nikon DSLR before, so I just tossed it into AV and it had auto ISO on I believe.

The downside was it had a 18-105 lens on it and I wast impressed by that at all.

These were all at ISO 800,1/15-1/30 shutter speed, these are SOOC jpegs just resized in infanview.

The files are CLEAN! I wish I could have figure out how to really crank the iso, but the salesperson was nagging me to get off of it. I'm not sure if I even had VR on, forgot to check it.

D7100 is small but still fits nicely in the hands. A D800 is the same type of grip just bigger with softer rubber on it.

It felt perfect in my hands, as good as the 7D which is the best feeling Canon in my opinion.

Eldorado Canyon

I went for a hike today up into Eldorado Canyon. This canyon is located just south of Boulder, CO and has some nice trails and a whole lot of rock climbing areas if you are into that. An old hotel was built up in the canyon in 1908 (really don't know how they built it where they did), but it burned down in 1912. The foundations and cooking hearth are still there and you can find broken pieces of porcelain dishes still around.

The weather was overcast for most of the day, so I had to get the shots as the opportunity arose, waiting for breaks in the clouds.

Shot with my D600, 50mm F1.8G lens and Series-E 28mm F2.8 lens.

here's something to brag about :P

referring to the recent Boston incident...

With his Nikon, Leonard snapped about 10 to 20 photos a minute Monday, capturing group after group of finishing runners and the crowds lining the route.

I tried a D3 and D3s, friend from Toronto let me use her Nikon gear. Only negative I found with them were the ergonomics. Part of that is it was during a serious cold spell and I was having a lot of difficulty being outside and trying to operate cameras I wasn't at all familiar with. Image quality and DR were both good, I thought better than than what I was getting from my 5Dc.

D3 rocks youll love it. Shot couple MX races with it and is very capable camera and they sell really cheap. Battery life, fps, autofocus, autoWB, all great. Only downside is the low res. LCD (better than 1dsiii) compared to newer models.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the input. Im just a little worried that with the D3 used prices dropping so much that I might be looking at the wrong horse. I can't find any D3 local to "try" out but I understand the AF is the same as the D700? I might look for one of those to try out.

Wow, some really good shots up there.

I had a question about a photo shoot I'm going to do.

1. I'm doing it for free (I promised them a refund if they aren't satisfied). ;)

2. It's a "wedding". Well, it's a renewal of vows.

3. I was asked about it today (Monday) and the event takes place Wednesday evening.

4. The outdoor part is under a gazeebo at about 6:30 pm, which is great. Golden hour. I'll be able to get some great shots.

5. Then it moves indoors for the reception (not as important).

But here's the deal: I have zero flash skills. I'll use the onboard flash outdoors sometimes for fill, and that works fine enough, but indoors I don't have a strobe. I'm thinking of getting one, but even then: Is a day enough time to learn what I need to know for half-way decent results?

I'm glad the important stuff is outdoors.

They are well-aware that I'm not a pro. I'm doing it as a favor for someone at work, and the expectations aren't high because the people getting "married" (37-years married) just asked their daughter to take some snapshots.

Any advice?

I'm using the D7000 with 18-105 kit lens and the 36mm 1.8 prime.

Thanks

Thank you. bw!

I'm pretty much in the same spot! but I'll have 3-4 days to learn flash if I'm lucky.
