shot this am, 28 degrees in a nasty 20 mph wind - according to the liar on TV that does the weather. It was sunny, I foolishly thought it might be nice, so I wore a tee shirt and my over shirt. Shot with my new 200mm F4, hand held. Hope RRS ships me that tripod soon. Not sure what it is, some kind of flower that can grow in the tundra.

Actually no...I used the 85mm 1.8 AF (before the G or D versions). does not have a built-in motor for AF...! I was just posting on nikon cafe about how all my shots were out of focus. These 3 were the best few out of maybe 40 shots. I kept running back and forth trying to get the dog to run towards me.

I believe I backfocused every single time. Even though these shots were pretty good - they weren't spot on at all. I had to do quite a bit of sharpening/add clarity to make it look more in focus.

Can you post some unsharpened shots?

You can usually tell whether such shots are backfocused or frontfocused by examining the ground underneath the subject. In the shots you posted here, the ground looks sharp directly underneath the subject, which suggests that if the camera missed focus, it didn't do so by much.

Oh, and I second David's comment: those are incredibly cute shots.
