D600 with 16-35 f4

others may complain the 16-35 f4 vignettes and distorts more than other lenses, but i like it for that reason.

Just about when I am on the verge of ditching my Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR due to lack of use, you gave me some reason not to give it up. I was considering a Zeiss wide angle prime lens or get the 14-24mm f2.8 just because but the problem is I haven't been doing a lot of landscape shots lately and the 24-70mm f2.8 at 24mm is pretty wide enough for me.

Glenn

this reply maybe is useless to you because I don't own a d600 or have any answers to your lens concerns. what I can tell you is that I have a d800 that has a later date and had oil splats on it after so and so actuations so it had to be cleaned. after that I added 1k+ on it and it seems fine for now, i'm sure I can expect more oil though.

I also heard that the new d7100 has the oil problem as well... again, sorry no experience on my end, just a 'heard of' info I'm giving you.

Hope I am not scaring you, but Nikon does have great camera and the files are really something different than canon and a pleasure to play with if you do pp work. I can also say that some pictures I do like canon's rendering better, but all in all, I prefer Nikon at this moment. to me Nikon wins on files, but canon is still more comfortable, better af, button layouts, more simple settings, better high iso, more lens selection. at the end all the good stuff about canon meant nothing If the picture file didn't turn out as great.

hope the above gives you some thoughts to help you decide about the switch. it's rather funny because when I was selling my canon gears and buying Nikon gears, two asked 'why are you switching?' I said 'because I like how the Nikon pictures come out' and then I would ask the same question back, and the person would reply, 'I like canon's pictures.' so it could be that we are just looking for something new to play with ;)

My D7000 was annoying for oil spots. Even at normal apertures (5.6-8) they would show up on any relatively solid coloured image. Was a fun little camera but I understand your concern brettjrob. I'm just not that sure it's as bad as you might be reading about on the internet

I tried taking some portraits (senior pictures) for only the second time ever. Unfortunately I do not have any lighting equipment, so I had to make do with my 5-in-1 reflector. Is the post processing on this alright? I want to make sure that it looks correct before I send them over to her.

^^The exposure is spot on Andrew. The warm tone adds that oomph! :)

Yup, very nice portrait! Tone and colors looks spot on to me. Very nice fill flash, are you only using the on-board flash?

No flash. That is just the camera and a large 5-in1 (maybe 42") circular reflector. I used the gold cover for this shot.
