Avett Brothers came to town a couple of weeks ago and put on a great show. Shot this with a 70-200 2.8 @ 120mm, f/4, D800, ISO 1000, 1/2000th second. Had to keep the shutter speed up, the old bleacher I was standing on was moving around a lot.

Is it just me or does the bokeh in this photo look extremely odd? This was taken with a D7000 and Tamron 70-200 (non stabalized version).

Yeah, a bit of blur or unsharpening in the background areas will help a lot. But without reading your comment my first thought was the good, sharp capture of the rider and bike. Only technically anal photographers will notice the bokeh

Neat little feature I recently found useful on the D800/800e. thought I'd share it, someone else might find it useful. When reviewing images on the LCD, you can see one hundred percent of the image right where the focus point was: in the Custom Settings menu select f2 (Multi-*Selector Center Button), go to Playback mode, then Zoom On/Off, then Medium Magnification. Now when you press the center button during image playback, the image goes to one hundred percent magnification.

Thanks for that info Rick. I'll check it out later on.

BTW, looking for a recommendation to replace the plastic LCD cover. Any good products? Some recommended GGS? I have a dominant left eye (although I am right handed), and the plastic LCD cover is pretty scratched up already as I rub my nose and face more frequently.

Glenn

QUOTED IMAGE

I like the shot Andrew. The background exhibits nervous bokeh from your lens. I've printed shots with it and it's not a big deal imo.

Cool beans. I'll have to try that out. Thanks Rick.

I finally lost my eyepiece on the D600 and I wanted to replace it with something else other than the OEM one. This piece I'm talking about is DK-21( link below). I never liked it and had to literally push my eye against the VF. So, I did a search on the web and found a solution (second link). I ordered all the pieces yesterday and will post my findings. I have converted all my Nikon VFs with the DK-3 round rubber eyecup and have grown fond of it. Anyways, stay tuned for my mini review with pics. :)

I've heard the Giottos ones are good too.

Posted this on FM and didn't get a response yet, wondering if anyone here knows:

Does anyone know if I have to send the camera back to Nikon within 1 year of purchase (under warranty) to get it fixed without charge? I bought the camera October 10, 2012 but have A LOT of shooting to do until October 10th of this year. I'd rather send it in later.

Just wondering if Nikon has acknowledged this sensor problem and would repair it for free after the warranty is up.

Thanks for any help.

Past 4k shots, keep cleaning the sensor and lots of dust/oil keeps coming back. Here's a crop from the top left frame:

That's unacceptable. Call Nikon. The New D610 is about to be released. They'll probably just replace yours with the 610. It's a common issue with the 600. So much so, that Nikon is pulling it off the shelf and replacing it with a new model.
