Picked up a refurb D600 this past week. While it has a fairly bad case of the oil/dust problem and will have to be exchanged, I've officially fallen for Nikon. The sensor is so good I was almost tempted to keep it as-is. Now that I've had a few days and outings with it, there's really no way I can go back to my 6D setup permanently. Hopefully I'll win the dust lottery on the next try -- if not, I suppose I might have to wait a bit for refurb D610s to reach a similar price point.

I was very tempted to try one of those refurbished D600's when the price dropped when they went to Adorama Ebay but I have been holding out. Than I almost jumped on the Canon 6D with 24-105 deal but missed that. It is good to hear your opinion since you have a 6D. Now I think I will wait for the Nikon D610 (that dr is amazing). How is the live view on the D600 as compared to the 6D?

Just bought a 16-35mm f/4 VR. Been eyeing this one for a while. What are everyone's thoughts on it? I'm primarily a landscape shooter who loves shooting wide.

When I made the switch to Nikon, I would have got the 16-35, but none were available. Friends have it and like it, largely because its cheaper to get filters for it than the 14-24 I ended up with.

1. The live view is definitely inferior on the D600. Noisier, and no ability to change aperture while it's activated. I haven't played with it a ton so far, but when I was researching these bodies, that was widely agreed upon (even by many Nikon fans).

2. I just got my second refurb D600 today, and it's even worse with the dust problem than the first. Amazingly, both arrived absolutely filthy out of the box and had to be wet cleaned right away. Perhaps the store I'm ordering from is recirculating duds, but I'm concerned this is actually what Nikon views as an acceptable "refurbished" product from their factories. I have very little faith in Nikon's customer service and overall business practices after all I've read (and now experienced firsthand) regarding the D600 fiasco. If it weren't for that damn Sony sensor...

If it helps at all I have a refurb D600 and haven't needed to wet clean it. Sounds a bit like a lottery.

Regarding the D610 I really hope we get more than just a clean sensor. At the very least upgrade the AF to the same one that is in the D800/D7100.

Pick up a D800/E. Buying used is a total bargain. For landscape the E would be highly recommended. As for the LV, Canon is certainly better but, before the firmware the LV was a 100 times worse. I've been using a field monitor to assist with critical focus. It has helped me a ton for doing product work.

Have you tested at small apertures like f/22 against a white wall or blue sky? Also, what are the first three digits of your serial number, if you don't mind?

I did the white wall test.

Don't have the camera on me at the moment but I can look later. I assumed Nikon was replacing the shutter on all the refurbs which is what they do when people send their D600 in for this problem. I bought mine a few months ago so all recent batches should have the new shutter.

A different kind of Lee CPL? remember I used to have the Square 4x4 CPL.

Yup. It's a 105mm screw type CPL. In order to use the 105 mm CPL, you need to purchase the "105mm accessory front thread adapter ring". This gets screwed on the front of the Lee Foundation kit. Then there's the CPL which screws right on the front.
