No photo, but I'm happy to report that after a year and a half of using my D800 I wet cleaned the sensor. Had some stuff stuck there I couldn't blow off, so I thought "Wonder how badly I can screw this process up?" and used my Eclipse kit. I think it was Julian who told me what kit to buy about 6 months ago - Thanks!. Worked perfect. Sensor is spotless now. Pad came out looking pretty dirty on one corner, some black, nasty stuff was on it.

First outing with my 16-35 f/4 VR today, this thing is awesome. Here's a shot at 16mm, f/11:

Thanks for all the prime inputs! Still pondering over a D800 purchase although I'm in no hurry, hopefully the price will drop a bit further. Sounds like the 28/1.8, Sigma 35/1.4 and the 85/1.8 would be great contenders that either are the best in their class (in the case of the Siggy) or are 99% of the best lenses in their class for a fraction of the price.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Bought the D7100, and kit lens, on Saturday, and went for a wander round to try it out - rather like this picture:

The reason for getting the D7100 is because I think it will take better stills than the Canon 70D, although the Nikon is not as user friendly ( no touch screen).

I rather have a better dynamic range than a touch screen so bought the Nikon.

(Previously owned and now sold: 5D Mkii, Canon G1X, Canon 700D - and hoping the Nikon will work out ok.

I really need a CPL for my 80-200. What would you recommend?

I have been reading up on CPL's recently, and I know to spend good money to get a decent CPL. I was planning on spending around $100 or so for one. Looking on B&H, I came across this Hoya filter.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ular_Polarizer_Glass.html (external link)

I dont need high transmission, so is this going to be relatively the same as the Hoya NXT or the HD one? The reviews seem really positive, and with the $20 instant savings, it is half of the price. Will I be missing anything here? There are so many different CPL's to choose from, I am not sure what I am looking at.

Selling my Nikon AF 105mm f/2.8 D Macro lens if anyone is interested. It's in near perfect condition. $375 shipped/insured.

Here's some good info on cpl's that might help

It looks like I can stop waiting for the D700 to come down for a backup body, I see Nikon has come out with the D610 with 6FPS, that should kill the resale price of the D600. Perfect for me as I rarely do bursts.

I still think the D7100 is a better camera especially if bursts aren't important. Yes it doesn't preform as well with higher ISO's but the better AF is more important (to me at least). That Nikon 39-point AF system has never played well with the 70-200 VRII, at least not in my experience.

I don't have the 70-200, I have the 80-200 D and in fact sold a 70-200 II for a friend not long ago and I played with both, even at a good price I concluded it wasn't worth it for me. The D7100 does very well for my telephoto needs, I'm looking for a backup to the D800 for landscapes.

Have you seen the new Pentax K3? Closer to the unicorn D400 than anything Nikon is producing. If it would only AF with my Nikon lenses. ;)
