I shoot Canon but I'm purchasing a Nikon D70s for the 1/4000 sync speed alone! Anyone still using one alongside their strobes for over powering the sun shots?

I own a DSLR, some lenses and some lights.

i dont know the specs of the 30d you are selling but i have a d5100 i got used and i really like it,i take it for traveling for work and i am quite impressed with the images,it also has a lot of effects built in and some are pretty good, battery life is great and its pretty light as well, for the price i paid i am very happy,im looking at a used 7d,if i get it i will be selling the d5100 and keeping both canons,

What do you shoot is normally the follow up question.

I have one but no I don't normally use strobes with it. I haven't taken advantage of the fast flash sync. Just the cheap price to get one. ;)

I shoot alsorts and everything generaly what i see when out walking over the fields and in the countryside and around the villages, i would like something with about the same coverage as my 30d/nifty 250, but abit more modern and possibly abit more lightweight.
Suppose i kind of shortlisted either a nikon combo of - d5200/55-300 VR or poss return to canon 650d/another nifty 250, i dont realy want to go to large with the body aka - Nikon d300s or canon 50d, but cant go as much as a Canon 60d or Nikon D7000.

D5100 and D7000 can give identical image quality - D5100 has flip-out screen, but D7000 has better AF and better facilities overall.

No experience of the cheaper lenses around 55-250 - so can't help you there.

Possibly thinking of selling our own lightly-used D5100 between now and Christmas, so if you do find yourself thinking about buying one, send me PM when you're ready and I'll let you know if ours is available. If you're still in Devon, we're also sometimes down that way.

Thanks for that rob, very nice of you i have been looking at the more realistic nikons and canons, and if im honest what i like the look of best is the d5200 with its better focus system esp the cross sensors in the middle, just what my photo subjects require, and i think the 55-300 Vr is not bad, i used to have one on a d70s but that body diddnt do the lens justice.
I like the canons jusy dubious about the lack of focus points.
