Did anyone else see these great bargains in the form of brand new 70-300VR lenses on ebay for just £89?

Which lens is better for pure focusing and IQ (Not including VR)

Nikon 55-300VR
Nikon 70-300D ED

I understnd the 70-300D ED has no internal focus motor and relies on the camera, and the 55-300VR uses a plastic version of a motor, so if using on a D90 which one would give the best results?

P.

The 55-300 has slow focusing and the 70-300 D has bad IQ... so, it's a pick'em...

If your looking for a bargain lens that's not too bad... the 70-210 f/4-5.6 D is very good.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by that lens. Hope to see some pics here soon from your combo.

A bit of Canon to Nikon advice please!

For the last 6 months I've been planning on some big purchases of Canon equipment. Namely one of the version ii superteles with either a 5D3, 1D4 or 1DX. My original budget has been whittled slightly as I've since found out I'm expecting.....well, my wife is!

One of the lenses that I was interested in was the new Canon 200-400 but that is out of the question now. Canon wise, by budget is now £7k (UK) so I started looking at the version i 500 f4 and maybe a 5D3.........

but........Nikon.......they do a 200-400, I know it doesn't have the built in TC, but so what, I can buy one.

I do a bit of motorsport, a bit of wildlife and a bit of landscapes, if I chopped in some of my Canon gear (I would keep the 40D and 70-200 for my nephew to use) Would a D800E (or maybe D3S?) 14-24, 70-200, 200-400 and a 1.4 TC be a good combo? I have the Gitzo for the longer lens but would need a gimbal, but it's in budget. Forgot to say, I shall be looking at used for the lenses.

Does this sound crazy?

Thanks

No, doesn't sound crazy. 14-24 and 70-200 are both excellent. I've seen a number of people trading their 200-400's in for the new 80-400. You might want to do some research on that option.

You'll find a lot of images/discussion of that 80-400 here.

Sound plan, but personally, I'd save the money on the E and get the teleconverter. I have seen more false color on the E that bugs the crap out of me compared to the D800. A lot of people don't notice the false color because they don't own both. There is almost no difference in sharpness/detail between the 2 UNLESS you shoot at F4-5.6. Even then, the difference is only noticeable at 200% and comparing them in Lightroom.
