It's pretty cool, yes. The surprising thing for me was just how much better it was than the D7000 (which according to DXO Mark offers an additional stop of DR a the low end). My old D7000 would have all sorts of horrible colour casts throughout an image like that if it was pushed that hard. Maybe it is the Nikon sensor (over the Exmor), maybe it is the larger sensor area or (more likely I guess) maybe the much larger photosites.

Sweet. VSCO doesn't make a photo better :) Most of my non-photographer friends preferred the non-vsco one also!

VSCO makes photos look the same.

Hey, now that the 5Ds is going to be announced soon, I'm running back to Canon.

Is 50 MP attractive to you?

Picked up the Nikon 50mm f1.8 Series E lens for $15. There was a worm inside and a bit dirty. After cleaning it and lubing it, the image quality is pretty good on a D7000. The contrast and color are a bit neutral but nothing couldn't be enhanced in the post processing. The sharpness is there and is good enough.

Going back over some old photos of my Sigma 120-300 OS with the D4 following discussion about loose mounts in that thread. Found this shot where the flashes didn't fire

QUOTED IMAGE

+4.5 push, +35 Contrast, +60 Clarity, +25 Colour NR and a heap of sharpening (in Lightroom) later

QUOTED IMAGE

Quite surprised how well this ISO 400 shot held up

That is crazy... and I will have to now remember to NOT delete pictures just because of under exposure or flash not firing....

Kind of a rare view of Portland. Out of maybe 40 flights to and from San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Jose, I think this is the first time I've flown over downtown.
