Hi i am a newbie when it comes to dslr. I bought a new Nikon d5300 yesterday. My plan was to build a photobooth. My question is, what is the best lens for photobooth? Can i use my Kit lens 18-55mm for photobooth or do i need to buy a different lens for photobooth. Need your advice. Thank you.

Welcome to the club, I would have said something like a 70-200 zoom or similar just to give you a bit of movement and flexibilty.

Hope this helps as I am not into this type of photography, but guess other folk here will pop by and offer advice.

For a photobooth you're not likely to have enough room for a 70-200 zoom, particularly on a DX body. The 18-55 would certainly serve as a decent option - you don't want a super expensive lens sitting around unattended and you're likely not prining much bigger than 4"x6" so you don't really need IQ any better than that lens can offer.

I have been for a long time a Canon user, but now I switched to Nikon. Sold all my Canon equipment and got a new Nikon D3300.
An used Nikon D700 is on the way, will arrive here in weekend.

For DX lenses, now I have the kit lens 18-55, Nikkor 35 1.8 DX and Nikkor 55-200 VR II.
As for FX lenses, I got an used Nikkor 50 1.4 G to pair with D700.

Canon is not bad, but I like Nikon's image quality and colours better.
Now I have to upgrade my nickname and signature too!

D3300 and 18-55. This kit lens is very sharp.

Welcome. You'll really enjoy the D700. With the grip and D3 battery it is almost a D3 for quite a bit less cash.

You're probably already aware but the old lenses with screw drive autofocus (e.g. anything that is not an AF-S lens) will not autofocus on your D3300.

Can you recommend a good telephoto lens for FX? I have 70-300 VR on my mind.

Canon has a professional 70-200 f/4 L lens, with metal body and superior optics, which sells for 500 euro.

Nikon doesn't have a lens like that, at this price.

Do I have a better choice than 70-300 VR at this price range?

I have heard about old Nikkor 80-200, but I dont know how good are those old lenses...

I am getting one of these bad boys - Nikkor 300mm f4 ed if primes, shouldn't be a problem on your D700 and work well with Kenko convertors 1.4 x and 1.7 x, the optics are Sharp so adding a convertor wont hurt the IQ to much, the AF works with them aswel and if you know what range you work in a focus limitor lever helps to contol any hunting that might happen due to the convertor.

It suites me as I do aircraft photography and the 300 f4 is good starting point due to its quality
