Thanks @Al, @Cory, @Tom.

It's a bit silly I asked that anyway, because I'm still such a newb! I think the 5D II will suit me just fine until the 5D III prices come down :)

Well, I'm gonna save my pennies and purchase this lens next, hopefully by my birthday in April!!!

WARNING!: Before commenting that my color correction is horrible, please keep in mind that I am colorblind, and that hasn't stopped me from trying.

Well mine is here...came a day early. Thought I would stir the pot a bit! :D

It really loves light like this...Soft window light. It will hit this shot all day.

The lens is not a big fan of lower tungsten lighted situations lacking in a lot of contrast such as this room at night. I usually use a flash rig for these type shooting situations (rarely do I rely on 1.4 for speed) and I found the lens struggling in this room last night. I had fair amount of missed shots. I was shooting servo with bounced flash. Some of it was probably that the kids were moving pretty quick at times. Just not sure other options would have done much better. I remember struggling with "another" lens under similar circumstances.

I guess I have 29 days left! Man, when this thing hits just right (and under the right conditions that is quite often) it is can't be beat. Hmmm....

Cory, you have me very confused. It feels like you have entered a time warp back to the time before you got this lens, or maybe you have amnesia? Does your head hurt? Have you been playing with electricity lately? :)

Another couple from me. Kid portraits also...and some more.

Aaaaa Ha ha ha...Um wait where...am I ??

Al what you more that likely didn't realize is that I ended up returning my first one as it was having very focus shifts depending on the focal distance of the subject. It was so subtle that it took me a couple months to realize what was happening. I now have a replacement. It is does not appear to be having that issue. :D My only concerns are what I describe above.

Oh, sorry! I went through the last couple of weeks very quickly (mostly just enjoying the pictures, ignoring the text). I know in the "New Sigma" thread there is endless hand-wringing about some focus issue, but I'm afraid I was very unsympathetic, I figured it was just the chart-shooters doing their thing. In fact, if there really is an issue, I'm afraid I just made a really rude post over there:( Anyway, I hope your new lens doesn't have the problem (and I hope mine doesn't have it, either!)

Hi Al I can't quite tell from your other shots due to the small size and compression, but does this photo look front focusing to you? The top half of the shirt seems to be in sharp focus and the eyes are off?

Are you sure about this, Cory? Are you going to drop the ball on us again?

Nope. I am shooting up at her, and she is leaning back, so the plane of focus contains both her left eye and the front of her shirt. I also did some selective desharpening on her face due to the rather revealing light...

Oh ok then. Good to know.

Mine still front focusing but quite a margin indoor and back focusing when shooting from a distance....

Still deciding whether I should just return mine. I don't think Sigma can calibrate the issue.

I said "it appears" not to have the same issue. I took a ton of shots yesterday at many different focal distances and they were all acceptably in focus. I do however, reserve the right to go on and on about how great this thing is to everyone and then up and send it back just before the stoke of midnight on the 29th evening of owning it for a full refund!! :D

I must say I am not a "chart shooter". Heck, I rarely use a tripod. THis is why I think it took me a little while longer to figure out that it was having focus inconsistencies at longer focal distances. I was simply using it for everyday shooting. What i need to remind myself occasionally is that that many times what I may consider a "missed" shot is actually perfectly fine. It simply may not have been up to the quality of what I know this lens is capable of, BUT it is still a keeper. The stars don't always align catching that perfect eye sparkle with every shot. This has been the same for me with any lens I have ever used. Many times you catch that eye focus just perfect, many times not.

:D I sure hope you get a keeper this time. I'm still haven't tested my copy extensively yet. Can't wait for spring time to come!
