Since the USB dock only calibrate 4 distances, does the lens still focus perfectly in the ranges between those distances?

Mine does, I assume it probably calculates some sort of curve, and applies the adjustments according to that curve, similar to how it works on canon cameras.

RE the Canon MK 1, it does have more CA, which actually kind of adds to the bookeh, however it can be noticeable if CA is a big issue for you.

Distortion, playing around with the lightroom profile on some of the photos I took with the canon, it doesn't appear to have much distortion at all, and maybe less light falloff.

I only tried the Canon 35mm briefly (rental) before I got my Sigma.

Would those who have problems [or not] mind posting their year number? I'd like to get an idea if there is better production in later year models.

Mine is 012 and difficult to calibrate.

The number on the sigma lenses is the year of release and not manufacture as far as I know therefore all sigma 35 art lenses will say 012. I bought my second copy brand new last week and it says 012.

Did you get rid of your original one?

I sold my original as I got done for dangerous driving and needed the money for a lawyer a couple of years ago  (I was speeding on the motorway but the cop went to town on me). I missed the lens so re-purchased it last week canon mount and use it with a metabones on my A7rII. Now I dont need to worry about focus issues or the dock etc

It's been a while since I posted any photo samples. Tons of great work in this thread, makes me nervous posting..

Just as a quick update, I picked up a used Canon 35/1.4 Mk1 to compare against my Sigma 34/1.4.

Some of the difficult, low-light situations that the Sigma misses the Canon also sometimes misses. But overall, the Canon seems to be more consistent in AF performance in the sense that when I take multiple shots of the same object without moving, each shot is in focus on the Canon. Whereas on the Sigma, it sometimes take 2 or 3 shots before the object is in focus (I half-press and re-AF between each shot).

However, optically, the Sigma is much much sharper and has much less CA. I noticed the different in sharpness straight off the bat even on my 5D2 LCD screen.

So overall, I think I'll keep the Canon for now because for what I do, I value AF consistency a bit more. But if you can manage to get a good copy of the Sigma, I certainly think it's better performing in every way.

So why buy a new lens vs buying the $50 usb dock and self calibrating the Sigma? Pretty much everyone says once you do that - the lens is pretty rock solid. The lensrental.com guy did a good write up on it a while back.....As others suggested - I would certainly try that before you give up on the lens.

So right now, I have it on in-camera MFA at -9.

Do you think it'll be worth it returning it and getting a replacement? Will the fact that I'm at -9 MFA affect future re-sale value?
