Hello to all the 1Ds II enthusiasts. I'm a habitual lurker, but my recently acquired 1Ds II has forced me to post my first thread. I bought the camera second-hand and noted that the viewfinder does not display the exposure information. So I changed Custom Function 01 (C.Fn-01) from 0 to 1 to turn on the display. When that didn't work, I cleared out all Personal Functions, not knowing whether the original owner had set something up to block the display (although I'm not sure why someone would do that). But, that did not work either. I've read the manual multiple times and searched this and other forums for similar problems, but have not found an answer. Am I overlooking something, or do you think that there's something faulty with the camera?

Also, does the "Clear all Personal Functions" selection in the camera menu clear the personal functions which may have been set with the EOS Viewer Utility software?

Thanks for any help you can provide, and I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving!

Jon

As far as I'm aware, there is no setting that disables the exposure information (which I assume you mean the exposure level indicator on the right hand side of the viewfinder when held in landscape orientation).

My only suggestion would be to do a reset via removing both batteries, leaving it for 10 minutes and then re-installing them.

Also, check & possibly update the camera's firmware (the latest is ver. 1.1.6 from memory)

Failing those, I think she might have to visit the Canon hospital. :(

Thanks for the quick response, Mark.

Thankfully, the exposure level indicator within the viewfinder works fine. However, the manual indicates that at the bottom of the viewfinder there should be all the other information, such as mode, shutter speed, apeture, etc. The camera itself though does not show all this. It's not the end of the world, since I can just quickly check the top LCD screen to make sure that I'm not about to shoot a one second exposure or anything. But it would be nice to see all that in the viewfinder.

I'll try removing the batteries and checking the firmware though. Thanks for those suggestions!

Have a good one.

I recently acquired one, as well. Welcome. The information is t the bottom of my viewfinder.

I went through all of the custom functions and switched them to see if any change would cancel it. I even set to different modes. I never lost it in the viewer. I would do as Mark said and try to reset by removing the batteries.

Good luck!
