I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.. I can either purchase a used 5DC for £500, or spend that amount on a lens.

Currently, I shoot all sorts, mainly street/urban and also delving into portraits/products/food. I've got an urge to get into FF, but the only have a few lenses that I can use on a FF. Shall I spend money to get a better lens range and then swap to FF later?

I currently own the below gear and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a 5Dc a week ago. The only shorter lenses I have for full-frame are 28 2.8, 50 1.8 & 85 1.8. I also have longer zooms: 70-200 and 100-400L. Don't plan on getting any new glass soon. My 'main' camera is a 60D. Each lens is a completely different animal on FF. Get the 5Dc.

Edit: Oops! I forgot that I also have Tokina 19-35 that I use on my 5Dc. You will need something at the wider end. Well, I would. Thanks, melcat.

You'd be missing all focal lengths below 50mm, which is a slight telephoto on full frame. Even if there is some way to use the 11-16 on full frame, you'd still be missing the bread and butter focal lengths from 24mm to 45mm.

Of course everyone is different, but I'd be crippled as a photographer.

I suggest you pick one of your chosen special areas, and then decide whether that would benefit from a lens... and then look to see whether that lens might have a use (typically some *other* use) for you on full frame. For example, 28mm on crop is a "normal" lens that has been a long-time favourite of street photographers, but it is also useful as a beginner landscape lens on full frame.

TBH, for £500 you might have more fun with a good set of used studio lights. The Bowens starter kit isn't much more than that new here.

I bit the bullet and purchased the 5D.

Melcat, you are right about the wide angle. I already have one strobe and a softbox/beauty dish, which is definitely something I will be using more often.

I did shoot a bit with the 11-16, but like many others have said in previous posts, its a bit soft on the edges.

I'll have a play with the camera over the Christmas period and get used to the camera.
