waiting in line for badly spec'd, low quantity in stock items. no thank you.

I drove past my local best buy last year on thanksgiving day and found a few dozen people playing games in the parking lot, grilling out, etc.. Looked like a good atmosphere, might have just become a new tradition for some families.

it's the poor mans version of tailgating before the game. no need to buy a ticket for this one, just show up.

Meh. can't even tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 40" TV unless you are 3' away.

Bestbuy one is a Toshiba.

Not true. I can tell the difference between 720 and 1080 TVs, and I'm an old fart with weak eyes.

I personally have a 42" 1080p 120Hz Phillips LCD TV. Best TV I have ever owned.

It replaced a 20-year-old 36" CRT TV five years ago. The 36" is still working at a friends house.

Its becoming a family tradition for a few, its something to talk about and share stories with others. Much like hunting and fishing, neither of which interest me.
What I'm getting at is the time and investment involved in equipping for a dove or duck hunt doesnt justify the small amounts of barely palatable food you get, but the experience is fun.
Fishing is the same, especially with a Kroger a block away.

So I think many people look at this as being about the chase or maybe even their chance at getting on TV camping in front of Best Buy

Then he reached the 2 hour line to check out. He put the item down and left. Simply put, his time is worth more than $15/hour, especially his holiday time.

Now think about camping out for days on end and you need to be 'saving' literially thousands of dollars to make this worth while.

It probably wasn't a 2 hour check out line. They may have done the "one big line" concept that made the line appear to be 2 hours long but the line would move quickly instead of having 10 lines with line backing up into merchandise isles and blocking people from walking around.

lol...yeah I'd never wait in line like that! ;-)a I sign up to work black friday (and thanksgiving) every year. There's enough great deals online that unless one has tons of time on their hands or something extremely specific has an insanely great deal, you're better off shoppin' from the computer!

(Just my opinion).

For lenses and such, I didn't see anything amazing this black friday, other than an online deal of a 5d3 for $2500 on ebay. I got a $150 40mm pancake for my girlfriend from best buy, great price imho--but that wasn't black friday, that was just a normal sale a week or so ago. There's always great deals going around, just a matter of waiting for a sale on the item you want.

And Happy: no, I'd tend to believe it probably really was a super long line. Maybe not two hours, but I've seen lines extremely long before...it's believable at a best buy...here's why:

1. The ones I've seen have a serious lack of checkers. There's maybe 4 or 5 registers tops. Not like fry's where you go in and there is like 15 checkers set up. Maybe other best buys are different though.

2. They don't just sell you the item. They try to push you on a best buy card. Oh but wait! You don't want the card?

3. Let me spend 2-3 minutes trying to make you buy an extended service plan. Even if you say you "no" right away, they keep trying to sell it to you!

Multiply that by a big enough line and I can believe the wait!
