Hey guys..

I'm going to be doing my very first photo shoot with a young woman this Sunday and I'm hoping to get some advice and tips...

I'll be using my XSi and 50mm 1.8 lens and I'll be doing a natural light shoot at the local park at around 2:30 in the afternoon...She has no prior experience modeling and I've told her that this will be my first time as well, so we both understand each other, lol...

I'm nervous but excited at the same time, I just want to make sure I get all my shots in focus and the light right...I'm thinking that the poses will come as I'm shooting..

So I would really appreciate any advice and tips I get can from anyone...Thanks for reading guys :)

Bring an assistant and a reflector.
You will want to shoot her in the shade if possible or with the sun behind her.

odds are that the sun will be harsh at that time of day, and since she is not experienced she will most likely squint if facing the sun.

backlighting her with the sun will work well , but you will need to use a reflector to fill in the shadows, or use your flash to fill in.

bring or have her bring, a couple of props for her to play with, a hat, as silk scarf, a pretty hair brush.

She can put the hat on, take it off, peek over it etc.. the scarf can be used to move around, peek over, wrap her hair and so on.

The props will give her something to work with other than being concious of the camera at all times.

I would avoid shooting wide open with that lens except for close face shots , or a face shot where you want everything else to drop out of focus.

Just some general ideas since I do not know your skill level or familiarity with your equiment.

Happy shooting1
John

Thanks for the advice and tips John...I do plan on bringing my reflector and my brother along as my assistant...

I usually shoot between 5.0 and 5.6 when shooting street photography, so I'm thinking of staying around there for the shoot and try and keep my shutter speed up above 1/100 if I can...

I will for sure scout a shady location and use the reflector to get more light on her if I need too and I'm actually thinking about having her bring her sunglasses with her as a prop..

Thanks for the tips again :)

She actually had to cancel due to a family emergency, so we're looking to this Sunday if the weather holds out...Sorry I didn't update, I wasn't getting anymore tips and advice, so I figured no one else was interested in helping, lol..

I'll update if I'm able to do the Photo shoot or not this Sunday tho :)
