When I bought my XT, I initially thought I was replacing my G2... I have come to realize that this is not the case. The G2 takes great pictures and is perfectly suited for certain situations and I am very happy to still have and use it. You are right, it is a good, tough piece of kit.

Edit: Oh yeah - nice shot!

I only just sold my G2 last month after about 4 years of shooting and gotten myself a 20D. The G2 went through a lot. It gave me lots of great pics. I have always recommended the G label to anybody that wants to get a point n shoot.

I still remember my First 3-5 shots on my G2 down by the lake. The colors and depth were astonishing. Although I lost these photos due to a harddrive failure but the images still stuck in my mind.

Hi Everyone
I have been reading almost every message on POTN for last one year or so, learned tonns of useful stuff this way. I got my first SLR (Canon AE-1) back in late 70's as a birthday gift from my Dad, G2 was my first digital camera and is serving me very well for last three years now. Although, at times I thought to upgrade to D20 afte reading great review here on POTN and all over the net for that matter but so far I am unable to justify the cost. Photography is my hobby, I do wish to have it as my job but it's not going to happen. I use my G2 for weddings, birthdays, family gatherings, Office parties, close-ups, out doors, landscapes and my G2 always give me above average results as compared to others carrying P & S or in some cases I was able to get better results as compared to DSLRS too. I use both JPEG and RAW formats but mostly JPEG. I also play with ISO, although camera reaches to it's limits very quickly, still it do what it suppose to do.Custom Whit Balance is another important feature, which helps me to perform better then rest of crowd. Photograpy is an art of capturing light on a medium (film or digital), one can't get better pictures if there isn't enoug light or better control of light. I believe that external flash is the most important piece of equipment one can have with a good camera like G2. I do have a Sigma 500 DG (non-super) and use it with or without Sto-fen, I use exclusively manual mode for indoor flash photography as I feel that no camera can figure what intensity of light I want on a certain object in my frame. This method was not possible few years back but now I can take full advantage of digital photography by taking few test shots and check histogram to make sure about results but LCD view can give me all the answers I need. So, for now, G2 is keep going and going and going ... and I will keep going with it and wait until Canon comes up with a DSLR with a viewfinder LCD which can tilte and swivel as most of my pictures are not at "normal" angle of view anymore.
