I'm sorry if this has been posted before, if you have a link please direct me that way.

What lens choices will make this camera body shine. Also, what lenses should one stay away from?

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving:)

What are you taking pictures of? That will impact your choice of lenses.

This thread might help.

Hello Harris - not too many lenses are duds on this body unless you buy something cheap with low IQ.

Since day 1 I've used the 24-105 as my go-to lens....probably took upwards of 50K shots with it. It has a tremendously convenient range and I use it for wedding work, social events, urban landscape and fine art. I shoot most for print and exhibit.

Being full frame the wide angle end shines with the 17-40L and for tele I have the 70-200 F/2.8 IS. Great low light shots can be had with the 85 f/1.8 at a price that won't break the bank, and if you do have some extra cash the 135L f/2 is excellent. As Walt has indicated, your needs should dictate your purchases. This particular series of shots was done with the 24-105:

Hope this helps. - Stu

I'm super please with how the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f1.4 performs on my 5Dc.

Also you cannot go wrong with the 135mm f/2, if you're into portraiture.

I will be shooting anything from Portrait to Landscape photography. Will also be shooting miscellaneous events from birthday parties to Weddings. I am making the change back from Nikon to Canon and going full frame. I will purchase the 5Dc now and will add a main body later Mk3 or D6.

My choices so far
Landscape: 17-40 f4
Portrait: 50 1.4 85 f1.8
Wedding: 24, 28, 35 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 Or combo 24-105 & 70-200

Wedding: 24, 28, 35 f2.8 ...

Make sure you know how to clean the sensor and buy cleaning kit in advance.

Thank you, have heard the 5dc sensor can get dust on rather easy. Question why did you just quote the prime choices?

They seems to be too close to each other to be practical combo price wise.

You won't be disappointed in the 85 f/1.8, excellent for portraits on the 5Dc, and the 24-105 is also all around excellent. Interestingly enough, the new 40mm pancake produces very nice images on the 5Dc.

I hear ya on that, just been a prime guy for a long, long time :-) However for weddings I think I'm going with quality zooms. I hear the non L 17-55 2.8 is a good choice????

+1 on this also. The 85 f/1.8 is very light, fairly compact, fast focusing, bright and quite sharp. Sometimes that shallow DOF is VERY shallow, and one has to be careful with portraits.

You mean EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS? Which is EF-S and not work with full-frame body as 5Dc.
