For some reason my EOS Utility (2.8.1.0) quit connecting to my my 5D Mark II. The computer still connect to the camera, and I can retrieve the images manually, but EOS Utility doesn't even act like like the camera is connected. I tried updating to the latest version, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have also tried connecting through a different USB port. Finally, I have tried installing EOS Utility on a different computer, and it worked fine. Any suggestions?

Are you running Windows 8? I have (had) same problem with Windows 8 and my XTi and 7D. 7D ok after I installed .NET 3.5 and rebooted. XTi still not recognized. When I connect XTi the EOS Utility splash screen flashes but does not open.

Others have similar problem with Windows 8 on the Canon forum. I'm watching for any update.

Thanks for the reply. I am running Windows 7, and this is the same desktop that this has been installed on for almost a year.

I still have been unable to connect to the camera via EOS Utility. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling EOS utility, but no luck. I can get the pictures off of the camera via Windows Explorer, and EOS Utility will work with the camera on my work computer. At this point, I am about to give up on fixing it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for another software package to use to transfer photos from the camera to the computer?

All I can tell you is that I use the same arrangement, both the camera and the software and have after a few hicc-ups early on it has been OK (the hicc-ups were entirely my own fault at the time).

I connect the camera to the PC, Eos Utility recognises its required and opens without my having to do anything. Sounds to me as though you have accidentally altered something vital. Easily done on computers sadly.

Mine won't connect when it auto opens so I click ok to shut it down. I then open EOS manually & it's fine.

Mine will not autoconnect or manually connect. When I attempt to open it manually, it looks like the camera is not connected.

Not to revive an old thread, but wondering if you ever found a solution. I've been having problems with my 50d on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines.
