Currently the competition in the 'Small Compact Digitals by Canon' section runs on a schedule of: 1 week to submit entries and then a further week for voting. I, and other members, feel 2 weeks is a little long for these competitions especially when there are usually only a handful of entrances each week.

Poll options are;

1) Change the timeline to 5 days of photo submissions (starting on a Saturday) and 2 days of voting (Thursday & Friday). These days can be discussed if majority votes this option.

2) Keep the original 2 week timeline and forget this thread ever existed

3) Other preferences. Tell us in the thread your own ideas/improvements.

I like Option 1. What time do you propose to end the vote on Friday? 12 noon or midnight GMT? I like midnight GMT better...

Yeah I would say midnight. It gives people coming home from work a chance to vote.

Well, there are 24 time zones (25 if you include India's 1/2 hr shift), so any time will cut someone off.

I voted for the shorter time but I'm rethinking my vote, we are already having problems with only a few people participating, shorting the time frame could reduce that number. I sometimes have to go out and get an image for a contest like this week and weather for a shortened contest will be a problem. I think we should increase the time to take images and reduce the voting time but leave the 2 week schedule. Maybe submissions from Monday thru the following Wed, then voting Thurs. thru Mon. Sorry for adding to the confusion.

Maybe we should try the shorter period and if it does not work, we can always go back to the 2 week format!
Just my 2 cents!

I think one week for posting is more than enough. Sometimes, when few people enter the challenge, it gets too long actually. On the other hand, we should keep only three days for voting.
So we would have a challenge from monday to next week`s wednesday (monday - sunday posting, then voting until wednesday), the next one from thursday to monday ( thursday - wednesday posting, then voting until sunday) and the cycle begins again on monday.
Cheers,
Stefan.

I think that switching the days every other week could be too confusing! Let's just keep it simple so maybe we get some more people posting! What about this idea - start posting on Friday (then there is a weekend..) and post till midnight on Monday .. then vote Tuesday till Thursday midnight - declare the winners Friday morning and away we go! Let's still use the GMT time zone!

BTW, there is still time to post a photo at this current competition!!

I agree with Elfie on the timing starting and ending Friday morning and maintaining GMT but I would like to propose a few changes for this to work.

1.Voting should start automatically like it did this week because I forgot.
2.The winner can be declared by anyone posting an image in the current contest if it doesn't need a tie breaker.
3. If the new challenge isn't started during the day Friday (GMT) then the 2nd place contestant must chose a topic and run the following contest.

What do you think?

I think this, combined with Hans's Ideas would be worth a try :) Sounds pretty good to me.
