What is something that absolutely blows you away about your own photography?

For me, how crooked shots are when shooting hand held despite how straight I believe I am shooting.

Go!

*EDIT, due to everyone mentioning it.

OK! Fine I have been using blown away incorrectly. I always assumed it meant something that makes you say wow. And really, negative and positive things make me do that.

Either way, I am owning up to my incorrect usage of the expression "blown away".

Let's move on please.

I can have a 2000$ lens and make it look like a 100$ lens.

That shots can look fantastic on the LCD at the time, but utter rubbish on a full screen later.

That too, particularly in bad light, and when I just want to take a snapshot.

Often happens with the 85L

Those darn Canon LCDs! I only ever use the screen to check exposure/histogram nowadays.

As for my own quirk to add to this? I can take some pretty amazing photos when shooting at my own pace, and only for my own indulgence; but when I have to specifically shoot for someone else, using specified criteria, I'm completely horrible. I make an awful photojournalist.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

My lack of skill regarding foreground interest in composition. I see absolutely gorgeous landscapes taken just feet from my own location, showing exactly the same subject but with wonderful leading lines of foreground.

How bad I'm with pictures where my wife is present.
Everyone else would have OK faces in the picture, but her... I always get it then she have closed eyes or else.

Luckily I own an early model 5D. Shots always look like crap on the LCD. lol

Also, how I often rely on PP to make bad shots look more interesting.

No matter how poor I think my basketball pics are, the kids still say they love them.
