OK, I'll bite. Why is it the end of an era?

Rick, they have been put up for disposal. They are in great shape with only on average 21000 hrs flying time.

Bob it's the end of an era for the RAAF as the C130H fleet are the last of the classic airlifters in the RAAF. By that I mean the last to carry a flight engineer & Nav. Might I also say the last platform that can actually do what the manufacturer promised it could!

Thanks, Phil. I worked on H models for the last 20 years of my Air Force Reserve (Air Reserve Technician) career. We got ours brand new from the factory. When I retired the J models were well established in the fleet, but you are right, they didn't seem to be as reliable as the H models.

Bob

Read about this beforehand and sad I wasn't around to see it :(. Used to work in Canberra which got me into some opportunistic aviation photography (I worked next to the airport) but finished up a few weeks ago and moved back south to Melb.

Thought I read some were being sold, some were being gifted to Indonesia and a couple kept for historical purposes.
