Until they discovered another Mayan calender that continues on past that date...

It does continue past 12/21/12. It's circular. I think the whole thing is that it's starting a new cycle and the assumption is that all the old cycle will perish.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

It would be worse than the stone age. IN the Stone age, the world was mostly wild and there was wild food readily available. Now, anyone in a city would have to resort to cannibalism within 2 weeks. We have no way to get food once the processing plants and distribution into cities shut down.

Yeah, because you know large cities have never had major problems and set backs where moving stuff in and out of a city for a time was next to impossible due to some disaster.

Do you really think it is going to take more than a few weeks for mechanics and gear heads to get old trucks running again, or rebuild the electrical systems from scratch? Might not be pretty, might not have a working radio, but there are lots of junk yards full of stuff that could become a running fleet of supply trucks in a matter of days after something like an EMP disaster.

I would say that if you think that is a legitimate concern then you would be better spending your time putting together items that "might" actually help you survive.

Can you explain why mechanical linkages are less reliable than electronic circuits? And I know that EF lenses have mechanical focus...

Lets say that I wanted to create a camera kit for doomsday survival. The electronic components of an EF lens could, in theory, be fried by the EMP from a nuclear detonation. The preceding rationale is equal parts jest and sincerity.

Further, like I stated in my original post, if I invest in a manual focus lens (i.e. Zeiss, Rokinon) I should expect the glass and mechanical components to have a longevity at least as long as that of pre-AF lenses. Further, 100% mechanical lenses can be easily adapted to various mounts, ensuring that over the life of the lens I wouldn't be restricted to Canon bodies.

I know its circular, I was just saying that they discovered a new calendar that continued past the current Dooms Day one. (before ending and starting a new "cycle").
