Sigma 24-70 f2.8 & Canon 50 f1.8

Hi,

I have the 350d and kit lens and I intend to get the the sigma 24-70 over the tamron 28-75, I have read lots of posts on the 'Nifty Fifty' and wondered if this lens would offer me anything different that the 24-70 wouldn't give me.

Is it worth getting both or not.

An extra stop over the Sigma, and 3 stops over the kit lens at 50 mm. That translates to better low-light performance and longer flash range.

I have both the Tamron 28-75 and the 50 1.8 and continue to use the 50 quite often. In fact, it's on right now. Not only do you get the wider aperture, but the 50 prime has better sharpness and colors. I will sometimes shoot with both lenses to get the best of both worlds. I enjoy the images from the 50, but enjoy the versatility of the zoom.

I had both and decided to sell the 50mm, in theory there are situations where the 50 1.8 would be better but since its not a focal legnth I use a lot I didn't feel the need to keep both.

I have the fifty and for the price it is a must have for low light portraits ect. The image quality is outstanding considering the price.
