One of the animals that I have always wanted to photograph in the wild are the Orangutangs. I have always watched Orangutang Island on the Animal Planet television network. The young babies that are rescued from the forest without their mothers just rips at my heart strings. So tonight I finally adopted one through the http://redapes.org/
organization. They are the largest rescue society for Orangutangs in the world.
I've had plenty of opportunities to shoot them in zoos but it just isn't the same. If I could ever get myself totally healthy (back issues) I would mothball everything I have here and volunteer there for at least 6 months. It is hard to decide what to support these days. There are so many people in our own countries that don't have enough to eat and I donate to many of the societies that help them. It never seems to be enough in any of the cases. I know that times are tough but I would ask if you can spare a few dollars to make a donation to this organization. I personally think it is a very worthwhile cause as if we do nothing we could very well see our distant cousins become extinct in the not too distant future. This is not a challenge in the sense that this would be tracked, I am simply trying to do my part to help an animal that is truly being forced to the edge of extinction.
