This is one very impressive lens. Light weight, fast to focus and sharp. The IS is something to experience. It was late in the day and light was fading fast. This shot was taken at 1/40 sec at F / 4.0 ISO 400, 200mm. Depth of field is shallow and I focused on the eyes.

The fact that you don't have 2.8 is obvious and the lack in speed is a concern, but the size and weight makes up for a lot. The lens feels right and the view finder is very clear.

Thanks for sharing your pic. I had my one on a 60D as well in the shop, but it is doing well on my 40D. In one shot I went down to 15th of a second hand held and the IS did the trick. Obviously your subject must not move.

70-200 f4 is one of the top value lenses Canon has. Enjoy them...good choice.

Has anyone used both this and the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8? They seem to be in about the same price range, so I was wondering if there are enough benefits to forgo the extra stop of light. I use the Sigma from time to time for sports, but I wasn't sure if the canon can measure up well if I get one for myself later on.

Thanks, I waited a long time for this impressive lens and I also had a look at the Sigma, f/2.8. At the end I decided to get the smaller and slightly cheaper Canon f/4L.
