First of all i did not say it's a bad product and i am not a canon fan. I have 70-300 vc tamron and i like it. I paid $500 for tamron last year. This is not a perfect lens it has some disadvantages. I knew this and i bought tamron anyway. I did not expect 70-200 is2 performance from it. 70-200 vc tamron is a brand new product and there may be some bad copies as we can see the same situation in other brands. I read the test results closely and saw the corners weakness of the lens. In the first entries in this topic there were superb wedding shots. I did not see the photos in their actual size but as far as i can see from the photos that lens is a very good copy. If i pay $1500 for a lens i expect high performance, no Ca, no soft corners.

For someone that makes hard and fast judgments about a lens, you sure seem clueless.

I am interested in knowing what makes you think this lens is not a high performer... from DxO testing (one of the biggest testers out there), the Tamron VC is high performance lens with sharpness to match(or exceed) latest manufacturer equivalents.

I have attached a crop of the focused area (Washington on the $1 bill) taken at 200mm f/2.8 with the sharpening in LR4 UNTOUCHED.

Would you tell me how you took this shot? Handheld, ss, tripod? Thanks. I am trying to figure out if my missed shots are user error (likely). Thanks.

If I am showing the lens' performance, I want to cut out all possible variables that are not relevant to the lens performance -- test at best possible conditions to show what my lens can do at certain settings. And get me out of the way to avoid user error! :)

So, in the case of the dollar bill, I wanted the 200mm f/2.8 performance, so I set camera (Nikon D600) settings to ISO 100, shutter 1/60, speedlight (SB600) bounced to the ceiling. I focused using the higher accuracy contrast-detect live view rather than phase-detect view finder. Set on a table (acts like tripod) and timer click (although no mirror lockup) to reduce possible vibration. I did leave the VC on and shot at 1/60... I do not think they had any negative impact. I should have turned the VC off and shot at 1/250 to make the best possible condition for lens testing.

If you do want to make your lens' performance shine, use the live view autofocus, timer or mirror lockup, remote release, ISO 100, flash, enough shutter speed etc. Once you know your lens performance, take it easy... you know you have the best tool, it is the matter of perfecting the user (much easier than perfecting the equipment).

Good luck and let me know.

one of your shots on the previous page have too low shutter speed. If you're shooting outdoors, I'de get the SS way up to prevent motion blur.

1/50 does not cut it when shooting people, even if they stand still.

This crop looks sharp. I found some big resolution samples in Flickr:

First and second shot are extremely sharp under studio lights.

Can you tell me your processing on these photos? I am realizing that I have to work on processing my raw files better to the best out of this lens. But I have a niggling doubt in the back of my head that they should be sharper to start with. :/

These are not mine but i'm using camera raw to edit my photos. There are several steps that i follow.

1. White balance adjustment
2. Exposure, shadow, highlight, contrast adjustment
3. Clarity and vibrance adjustment
4. Sharpness and noise adjustment
5. Lens correction adjustment
6. CA adjustment
6. Sensor spot adjustment with levels

I think these are the best photos i've ever seen for Tamron 70-200 VC. They look tack sharp but they are not in actual pixels (nearly 7Mps). Reducing image size to lower megapixel value increases sharpness on screen. I'd like to see them in true resoloution which is 24.3mp in Nikon D600.

I must add that some of the photos I have added have shown user error. :( So I apologize to any who may have taken it as equipment issues. Here is a shot a 200mm 2.8 (and a close crop).
