Lately we have had this backyard friend visiting us each evening. I like to call him the "weeds removal" guy, that's all he seems to munch on.

This thread makes it hard to choose between this lens or a 70-200L IS v1.

No it doesn't, it makes it easy. This lens is newer with arguably better optics ;)

Have any of you tried the Sigma? I'm stuck with trying to decide between the Sigma and the Tamron..
On paper, the Tamron is better; however, looking at photos people take, it seems almost identical.
The Tammy is about $300 more expensive than the Sigma. Is it worth the extra money?

For me it was. Longer warranty, a little bit lighter, and weather sealed. And looking at plenty of reviews, the Tamron is sharper @ 2.8.

I don't have this lens, but I've seen some night shots where the star bursts around lights look fantastic compared to the Canon mkii version. When I'm ready...the Tammy is the 70-200 2.8 I'll be getting.

the 8 point starbursts is probably the biggest weakness of the mk2.... at least it's not as bad as the samyang 14, which is only 6 point..... ewwwwww

Very nice. The light is great and there's lots of character in that face.

Just purchased this lens and it's going back. It's beautiful, sharp, great bokeh, but the focus is very in consistent. I blame it on the VC. I tried shooting with both on and off and the pics with the VC off are most consistently sharper than with the VC. Such a shame I wanted to love this lens, but the focus just doesn't cut it. I hope Tamron can address these issues in the future. I love the black look of the lens.

You have to let the VC kicks in first. I think that's where your issue lies. VC alone shouldn't affect focus
