At a race with this lens right now and so far not at all impressed with its auto focus in low light, during the day I love this lens but, last night trying to take shots at the track even with flash I couldn't for the life of me get this lens to focus on the cars.

If you're using your 7D...that's probably the reason. 7D sucks in low light from my experience.

yep, could definitely be the case. I was able to track running kids @ 8pm, nothing but street lights illuminating. Of course the 6D has a super sensitive center which works very well.

Yah...I'm so tossed up about the 6D. I love some things about it. How is it in LOW iso/landscape usage?

It's probably the best canon offers. Fair amount better than the 5D2, MASSIVE amount better than the 7D, trails the A7r by a little. That's just my experience with those cameras.

I'll always keep a DSLR around for my kids, but heck, I was manual focusing my kids swimming lessons, with little issues..... it's a really good all around camera, better skin tones than the sony sensor (really big factor if you do a lot of people photography, not much of an issue with landscapes).

as for pulling exposures, 6D is good for around 2-2.5 stops, A7r good for ~4 stops, but that does introduce a lot of natural noise from such a heavy pull. Both cameras, I will shoot the same (brackets when needed).

joonrhee has been selling A7r's for 1525 on FM...... WOW, hard to ignore at that price. 6D is a jack of all trades type camera, great all around camera if you do a mixture of genre's, but the A7r is a notch above for landscapes.

Maybe we should carry this conversation on in one of the model specific threads.

BUT...I know you have at least a 6D and the a7r...how do you separate the two as far as what you're shooting goes? I can't imaging trying to manually focus a moving target such as your kids swim meet.

Ah yup just went back and checked, I must have read about your experience earlier in the thread!

I've always had a feeling that something like this might happen, didn't know for sure until I remembered to try it out the other day.

Sure beats my original plan of buying & trying the Tamron 1.4x even if it isn't officially supported

What is the issue with the 6D and this Tamrom Lens?
