Facebook is a wonderful tool. I find it to be wonderful for keeping in touch with family and friends all over the world. Not everyone has the internet capabilities to use Skype. Or the want to stay up to all hours to have a conversation with someone on the far side of the world. I can go online when it is convenient for me, scroll through all my notifications and the news feed, and see what it going on with everyone else. And they can do the same.

A lady that we have known all our lives has just been back for a visit. She kept going on about how much fun she has keeping up with everything that we do, and seeing the kids grow up. She and her husband moved from here to Dubai, where they stayed for 5 years, and now have been moved to Holland, where they will be for 4 years. Without Facebook, I would never have known that she (in her 60's) went dune surfing in Dubai.

I ignored you as a test, that's pretty cool. You still see that they posted but don't have to read it ;)

I was talking about unfollowing people on Facebook. Always have been able to ignore people on here.

The advantage to unfollowing people on Facebook is that you don't even see the placeholder like you do here.

I have probably friended 40 or more people from this thread on Facebook. Mind you, I have met at least half of them in person too.

They would be my virtual friends, ones I have yet to meet in person, but certainly hope to some day. :)

Unfollowing isn't always an option. I have culled those that I don't really care about but many close family members also post things I am interested in but they also post a ton of spam. These are harder. FB allows you to unfollow certain sites but somehow they still keep coming through.

I have met in person a grand total of 4 people from this whole forum. Went urban exploring with one guy, bought my flash from a guy that lives on the other side of the river, delivered the travelling Nifty Fifty lens in person to a guy on the other side of the river, and met up with Martin (FJ Love) for dinner when I was in his area to buy my truck. Plus I introduced a (former) co-worker to the forum.

I have three forum members on Facebook.

Okay, I am lame, but just did an actual count.

On Facebook I have 50 POTN friends
I have met 20 in person, all from the US, from California to Long Island, and places in between.
I have also met up with for photo outings antoher 25 or so local POTN'rs, that are not friends on Facebook.

These interwebs sure make the world a smaller place.
