I never drink rum.....EXCEPT with some dark rum, and usually a twist of lime. I kinda prefer a Demerara Rum this way.

Lots of great sipping rums too.

Dang, I just burned a whole pound of Texas pecans to a crisp. Was toasting them up a little and forgot about them.

Rum is one of my preferred drinks. And it makes awesome rum balls for Christmas!
Vodka is next.

Just to let you know, you are not the first person to do this. I have done it with slivered almonds a few times. You have only a few seconds of a window where they are toasted just right, and I have missed that window a couple times.

Rum used to be a very common drink for me, now maybe a couple times a month, tops.

Now it is mostly craft beers, red wine, and Scotch, with smatterings of other things thrown in.

I can't do beer. The smell is nasty and the taste is even more so. Wine is barely tolerable, and I'll only drink it if I'm at a wedding, it's on the table, and there are toasts. I have never liked grape juice, fermented grape juice is no better.

I like mixed drinks. Caesar, bloody mary, pina coloda, rum and coke, and others of the like.

I found a recipe that's really yummy... Bloody mary steamed salmon. I'll make pasta of some sort to go along with it.

Same here, sort of. I like the smell but not the bitter taste. I drink it from time to time but it's not something I seek out.

Wine on the other hand I do like. You do know that they make many different wines many from fruits other than grapes. I've had a few outstanding cherry and strawberry wines.

Drinking beer these days, has been taken to a whole new level. There are so many great beers made now, of varying flavours, it is a wonderful experience trying many of them. I no longer ever buy the common brands of years gone by, Bud, Canadian, Coors, etc. They all lack any good taste. I even know a few converts in past years, my wife included, who are now drinking beer, due to all the wonderful offerings.

There are lots of wines made with fruits other than grapes, but I have found very few that are all that great, they tend to be sweeter, which I don't prefer. BUT, drinking good wine for me, carries no comparison at all to grape juice. I do tend to drink mostly red, though there are lots of good whites too. Favoured lately are Spanish wines, with Rioja one of the tops.

Mel, you must have been offered some sub-par wines. There is absolutely nothing rotten smelling to a good glass of wine. Just the opposite actually, the nose of a good wine is just as important as the taste.

*off to pour a big glass of red I go*

My Dad's side of the family has plenty of wine lovers, never liked anything they had, and they could sit and talk all night about wine.

Not sure where you are buying "wine", but let us know, so we can avoid the place. If it smells rotten, it is rotten.
