Wine and beer share one thing in common, there are plenty of cheap products out there that have a very generic quality but git the job done. But then there are lots of individuals putting together some really high quality stuff barrel by barrel or bottle by bottle. Micro-brews have become very popular these days so they have become much easier to find but there are also micro vinificators out there as well, not as easy to find as micro-brewers but they are out there.

Well at a wedding it's just sitting on the table. In Ontario it's usually bought at the LCBO, directly from a winery, or homemade.
It's not as bad as when my sister would leave juice in a water bottle until I discovered it and had the joy of emptying and washing it out, but close enough.

We have lots of wineries near here. The Niagara Ice Wine is supposed to be top notch. But I am not about to shell out for a bottle just to try it. If someone else has it, I'll try it. If I was nearby a spectacular winery I would probably go on a tour, but more for a chance to take pictures.

No kidding.... either domestically or internationally!!

I had a glass of a $125 bottle of wine once...best glass of wine ever....until I found out how much the bottle was (I wasn't paying) and felt extremely guilty for consuming that glass.

Lots of times some of the costlier wines, though good, are really not worth it. We pay a lot up here, as the luxury tax on booze is stupidly high. I bet we pay near double what you guys in the US pay.

I am not much of a fan of Champagne, but I had some once that was over $100, and it was quite good.

I have a bottle of Amarone that was given to me by a customer about 8 years ago, that has increased in value hugely, and is now worth well over $100. Not sure why I don't just drink it though. This is a pic of the wine 350 square foot wine room I built him. Around the side to the right, and behind right, is a bar with a counter and cabinets. There is also a beer fridge if you are not a wine drinker. I thought I had a shot of that too, but can't seem to find it. They have a big dining table in the middle, so they can sit in their and do tastings with lots of friends.

Living next to the border is beneficial. Each person is allowed 53 ozs of wine, 40 ozs of liquor, or 287 ozs of beer per trip without paying duty. It's not all that much, but if you cross often and bring the max each time it adds up. My sister and BIL live in Michigan and all of us go back and forth regularly.

The main border crossing is the Bluewater Bridges, but down the river is the Sombra Ferry. On the American side of the river is the duty free shop. It's $2 round trip for foot traffic. It's very popular for people to "walk" across, buy several cases of beer, and "walk" back. The ferry has several hand carts available to use. Even with paying duty it's significantly cheaper, if you don't mind the weaker beer.

I can't keep a bottle of wine more than a day or two....I'll never need a wine rack.

we have a wine rack in the kitchen, under the island.

never used for wine, right now it holds 2 planes, 2 monster trucks and a flashlight that alexander parked...

While I've had the opportunity to taste some expensive wines, I find it much more fun to find a great tasting moderately priced ($15-$30) wine. I just bought a case of local Pinot Noir @ $18/bottle that is every bit as good as the extremely well rated Skywalker Ranch Pinot that costs $70.

Sounds like a great use. I've seen some really nice ones....and there is a somewhat local winery that I love with a $16 bottle....but, I don't have enough disposable income to let bottles accumulate....and I am somewhat lacking in willpower....

So you subscribe to the "best wine rack is in my belly" school of wine collecting.

Your $16 bottles cost us near $30. Lots of great wine in that price range.

some clients spare no expense on wines, but normally at home, we'll tend to stick around the $12-25 bottles of wine.

can't beat a good malbec red though
