I'm considering a set of Hitech soft ND's. The kit I'm interested in comes with their holder. Is there any reason to not use their holder and instead go with a Lee FK?

I plan to use these on a 10-22 and 17-40. With the Lee I see that they offer a 77mm wide adapter that I'll need. Can I use that on the Hitech holder? Are most parts interchangeable? Would there be any issues if, eventually, I get a Lee filter and attempt to use it in the Hitech holder? Say a BS?

Thanks for any help.

I believe the Hitech filters are fully compatible with Lee - they certainly are with Cokin holders - which are compatible with Lee filters. After all it's only the width that matters. As far as I know the only thing to watch out for is that the Bid Stoppers have a foam light seal at the edges, Format Hitech make these in 2 different thickness, one for Lee holders and one for their own.
Another point to note is that with the 100mm filters you will still get some vignetting on your 10-22 and your 17-40 (FF sensors)at the shortest focal lengths.
Between two friends and myself we have a wide variety of filters and holders from numerous manufacturers in 85 mm and 100 mm sizes. Personally I recommend the cheapest holders + adapter rings you can find and put in the most expensive filters you can afford! The cheap holders do the job and can always be chopped about to your personal needs, however cheap filters are wasted money! Lee and Format Hitech are the only brands I would (personally) buy.

Thanks John, I'm shooting with a CC, would vignetting still be an issue and if so should I invest in the Lee 77mm wide adapter? Or does Hitech have an equivalent wide adapter?

Besides Cokin, what other adapters should I consider?

Thanks.

A friends 10-22 does vignette with a 100mm Z Pro holder and APSC sensor as will the P series. A wide angle holder helps if you are using P series holders.

As to which other holders to consider I am not certain. We all use Cokin ones or the E Bay copies. The Hitech and Lee holders look very good but I haven't used them personally.
