Coyote on Frozen Lake, Yellowstone

Saw this coyote looking for a bit of morsel on a just frozen lake in Yellowstone. First pic: 1DX, 500f4, 1/8000, f4, ISO-800. Second pic: 1DX, 500f4, 2X III, 1/1600, f8, ISO-1600.

Rick, the first pic was taken with a 500f4 II and the second pic was with the same lens plus a 2x III. He was a bit far away for the bare lens so the first pic was heavily cropped.

Actually, both were cropped almost to 100 percent. By the time I got the 2x on, he had moved to the far side of the lake and turned around to look at me.

Totally absolutely gorgeous shots, love them both. You just made up my mind on the 1DX.

Wallace, go for it and you will never look back. I wrestled with the decision before, but once the firmware fix was announced, it pushed me over the edge.

Beautiful shots!!!

A couple of springtimes ago, we went in May & the lake was still frozen, I caught 2 wolves running along the shore but they didn't look at me when I photographed them. They just kept running :)


Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
