I've had my 20D since the beginning of Oct. and I'm at about 6000. I'm still trigger happy with my first SLR. I'll go to a party with friends and shot 500 shots in a few hours.

Unlucky would be for it to break 2 days after the 1 year warrenty expires. That's unlucky and happened to a friend of mine. Christopher J. Martin

The main reason that you worry about shutter count is that the shutters are in panels. When they go out the panel comes apart. I am sure most everyone here has seen shots with black lines across them which is an indications of shutter failure. It is possible for them to shatter when they come apart and the pieces of the panel can hit the sensor. I have seen it happen on a 1D. At that point you have a very expensive paper weight. Better to worry about replacing a $300.00 shutter than a $3000.00 camera. At a 200,000 cycle shutter life my MkII in going in for a replacement in about a month whether it is giving me trouble or not. Call it insurance. I've got 2 350D/XT's, cards have been changed about alot so can't realy on the read out's but I know ones got close to 30K on it and the other about 7-8k. They last about as long as a bit of string, I've heard of people getting over 120k on the 300D's. In my mind you use the camera as you need to do or enjoy what you do with it, the only time I think a shutter count might matter is in buying 2nd hand in which case you adjust purchase/sale price accordingly.
