Hey All,

I had the chance to visit an abandoned German POW Camp today, which was the most amazing experience! This camp is apparently where Brittan held all of Hitler's top ranking men as they captured them, and it turns out, this place is under an hour away from my home! We walked all through several of the buildings, which were super creepy, and then covered some of the grounds outside. These are my two favorite shots from the excursion today - pls tell me what you think!

This is in a room on an upper floor, and its just a window frame. The edges of the frame are visible, but you should know, these were heavily damaged in a fire a few years back. The windows are blown out, and there is a grim view of a desolate field, then another abandoned building on the premises. Below the window is some graffiti. I loved the look and I'd love to know what you think of it!

How did I do?

You are one lucky person to have toured this place .. I want to see more of the grounds and buildings. It will be a long time before I ever get to that part of the world, so thank you for sharing!

The pics posted are good!

Outside of Crossville Tenn. is a pow camp for german officers. The wire fences and the fireplace chimney are all that remains standing. I am more of a civil war buff. and Tenneessee is loaded with civil war sites and cemetarys. I have visited both multiple times and as they say if you fail to learn the past you are bound to repeat it.

Thanks everyone! :D

I REALLY enjoyed shooting that location, and I can't wait to get back there and into some of the buildings that I couldn't get into this time! Some of the buildings you have to climb up over huge mounds of dirt, and launch yourself into open windows a few feet off the ground - I probably could have gotten IN ok, but I was a little nervous about how the heck I'd get OUT since there was nothing visible inside that I could use to climb my way back out! Next time though, I might bring a small step ladder with me so that I can bring it around and get in and out a bit easier! Each building has a very dark basement, so I may need to wear protective footwear and bring a flashlight along as well as its very dark down there! One building apparently has the ruins of an old indoor pool which is said to be quite amazing as well! :D

Just curious, were you trespassing? or is this available for the public to go into? It matters not to me, as I'll do almost anything to get the shot, but I'm just curious. Amazing location and cool photos.

What's the name of this place? Looking through your flickr images of the same buildings, there are things in there that are significantly more modern than WWII. Maybe it was converted to other uses since then.

Ummm... yes, actually, I believe I was trespassing. There are no gates up or anything to try to keep people out - but I think I saw a no trespassing sign somewhere... Not sure. But I'm told its a popular location for photographers to visit, and we did see at least two other photographers there while we were there. :) Its a fabulous place!

This is called Camp 30, in Bowmanville, Ontario. I believe the building was a school at some point (not sure if this was before it became a POW Camp, but certainly it was a school around 2009). It has been bought by a company who builds new homes, and it will likely be demolished eventually, though I'm not sure when.

I really like the second shot. I think it is from a milkweed seed.

Thanks for the info. There's some interesting info on the internet about it. It did indeed serve other purposes after the war:

"After the war it was used a private training school, a Catholic secondary school, and finally as the Darul Uloom Islamic University. It now stands as though it may be demolished as the theater hall was maliciously burned by one of the previous owners of the site in a failed attempt to gain insurance money."

Nice research! I've read some things about it, but hadn't yet gotten to who set it on fire or why. Had assumed that was done by vandals, not by a previous owner!

I can't believe I've lived here this long, and never know that was right there!
