They are lovely shots. Just out of interest - what aperture are you using in them? I got a very similar pressie this year - the 85mm f/1.8. Been playing about with it - mainly to work out what the biggest aperture I can use, and still have a slight margin for error in focussing on my fast moving 20 month old son :)

I'll have to check when I get home tonight. I think they were around 2.0 @ 400 ISO. It's really hit or miss (mostly miss) with that lens wide open as most people can tell you. At 1.8 I usually get one eye in focus and the other out of focus.

Thanks for the comments.

Cool - thanks - yeah, the focus on the 85mm is really accurate, but at f/1.8 I find the DOF is so narrow, that as I use the central focus point, and then recompose, it can cause problems - I normally tweak the focus, as it has full time manual focus.

I may have to break down and buy either the 50mm 1.4 or 1.8.

I haven't used either - but the 85mm f/1.8 is an absolute cracker of a lens! I guess the best way to do it is to go to a shop that has them both, and play with the 1.8 first. I get the impression if you try them both, or you try the 1.4 first, you will want the 1.4 - whether you can afford it or not!

Really nice shots. Great job on the use of natural light. I wish my house had more natural light inside.

Thanks very much Bad Iron - your focus was spot on for both of them - no mean feat considering the problems some people suffer with the motor in that lens.

Lovely shots!
