I have a home made bard door tracker. It has a 1/4 20 bolt that should be good for star tracking at 1 turn per minute. Been a long time since I have got it out and didn't have much luck then.

However, I was just wondering what the difference in rate would be for planets. It there a site that caculates how many 1/4 20 turns would work on planets?

I can't answer your question but I think we'll need to know the distance form the hinge to the bolt as this would also determine the speed at which you turn the screw.

yes you just need to account for the earth's movement. Though when video imaging a planet, there are sweet spots on FPS and length before details gets smeared.

11 1/4 inches.
I tried it tonight with the clouds moving in and it was ok at one turn per minute until I put the 100 - 400 on it at 400mm I never got it to work without some trailing.

But it must be close as 400mm gives a trail at 1 second from just a tripod. I'm saying that thinking it does not sound right but it does unless I had some other problem going on.

Still, do you think there should be a trail at 400mm / 1 second on a crop?

Whilst the planets obviously do move, the movement isn't fast enough to warrant trying to work out another speed for your tracker. In fact my motorised mount uses the same speed to track planets as it does for stars. It does, however, have a different tracking speed for the moon.

OK then, thats that. Thanks.
Still working on my barn door. Put my green laser on it tonight in hopes of being able to
align it better with the NCP. I feel if I can get that part correct I can track for several minutes without trails.

I would like to try the motorized camera tracker from Orion, anybody ever try one of these?

I was Just looking at the new Orion catalog today and saw it for 400. I was wondering if one would be able to use a guide camera with it or just depend on the built in go-to

The one in the link I was speaking of is 179.99
You must of seen something a bit nicer. I'll have to go back and have a look.
