Hey Guys
I'm about to purchase a 5dm2 for an amazing price, just wanted to see if there was anything special I should look for. It has 27k clicks on it, the sensor, mirror and prism are relatively clear, a few marks but I'm fairly sure they're on the focusing screen. The hotshoe is fine and the body is in good condition. Should I check anything else?

Edit: was able to blow the camera out and it's crystal clear now.

Bring a lens, take some pictures, make sure the LCD screen works okay, and I think you should be set. Check all the wheels, knobs and buttons to be sure they all function correctly, too.

Enjoy your new camera.

If you didn't get a user manual with it, download one from the Canon website and refer to it so you know all the controls. That will help you checking out the camera thoroughly.

It would be nice to get all the originally bundled accessories besides the instruction manual, too. Those would include a battery, strap, a body cap, cable to connect the camera to a computer. If you haven't had a previous Canon DSLR, it would be nice to get the original software disk too... It is out of date now, but to install updates downloaded from the Canon website, you need to have an earlier version installed (it is possible to install it without that, just not as easy... if you need to do so, search here or elsewhere on the web for info on how to do it).

Once the camera is yours, you might check the firmware version installed on it and, if needed and if you wish, update with a download from the Canon website.

5DII are pretty durable and problem free. It's rated for 150K clicks, so that one is barely broken in. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Here's a link to The Digital Picture Review, lots of good info and links. The latest firmware seems to be 2.1.2.

So I checked every inch of the camera, it's in amazing condition. It had a few scuffs on the bottom, firmware is up to date. No dead pixels in the LCD, and the wheels and buttons all feel perfect.

I've owned a xxD's camera and I've used a 7d a lot, but the shutter/mirror of the 5d2 sounds much different, it's a deeper thunk and has a mechanical whir behind it. Is that normal?

Yeah, its a much larger mirror so its a twack instead of a chunk sound.

The shutter/ mirror sound is definitely different between the 7D and the 5D2. I guess your description fits the way the full frame shutter/ mirror sounds.

Figured, Just wanted to make sure. I really don't regret it at all. It's in great shape.

Just to anyone wondering, I paid 857.50$ for it bw!

At first I was slightly horrified, I thought something was going to stab me in the eye.

Nice deal

I always liked the 5DII shutter/mirror sound.
