I just posted this yesterday in the camera thread, hopefully someone here has some info for me!

Hey guys,

I am hoping, but not for your sake, that someone has had this happen and has a solution:

Upgraded my 5d3 firmware about 2 weeks ago, went out to shoot a wedding this weekend and my Vello batter grip and camera are acting all sorts of crazy. The camera just starts burst continuous shooting until it fills the buffer, waits, then keeps going. It doesnt stop! The only way it stops is if I turn the camera or grip power off. Its crazy.

Yes, it worked fine before the upgrade. With genuine canon batteries and with 2 sets of aftermarkets. Never an issue, camera even gave me level readings of the batteries.

Shutter button doesnt take the picture, but it will focus? Sometimes I could get it to stop shooting in burst long enough to test that but if I got it to stop shooting, the main shutter on the camera didnt work!

Very strange but I am fearing the firmware didnt play nice with this grip. Anyone have this issue or a suggestion?!

Given that I returned my Vello for the OEM but I'm curious either way. I would be as frustrated if the grip could cause this.

If I was him, I'd reupgrade the firmware and without the grip on it if that mattered. Perhaps the firmware upgrade didn't patch properly?

I wanted to chime in here about the Vello grip for the 6D. I know wrong camera, but I found something that may pertain to the 5D3. I have no problems with grip, and its operation. What I did find out was that my RRS quick release plate( non L-plate) for a gripped 6d does not fit the Vello grip. I called RRS and they said this was a common problem since there are obviously some design differences between the Vello, and Canon's grip. I obviously have no idea if this problem pertains to the Vello 5D3 grip, but wanted to let people know this might be an issue for those with RRS plates. Hopefully not!

Canon 6D gripped, Canon 50D gripped, Canon 24-70 F/2.8 L, Canon 50 F1.4, Canon 70-200 F/4 L IS, and the list goes on!
